Eating out in Germany runs from a quick Döner at an Imbiss to a long evening in a Gasthaus, and a listing like this one is best judged on freshness, turnover and how consistent the reviews are rather than on decor. Lunch menus (Mittagstisch) are usually the best value, menu prices already include 19% VAT and service, and many kitchens close between lunch and dinner. Bakeries open early and are the one shop you can count on for a Sunday morning.

Opening hours are published for 1 day a week. The most common schedule is 20:15–01:00. Note that it does not open on Monday. Hours in Germany do change around public holidays, and many businesses close for a day or two over Christmas and Easter, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. Berlin is in the state of Berlin, the capital and largest city of Germany; summers are warm, winters grey and cold with occasional snow, and the dense U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus network puts most businesses within a few minutes' walk of a stop. For directions in Berlin, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

I’ve been here before - it’s a special place for me, and Charlotte and Sahand create exactly the atmosphere I’m coming back every now and then (also, kudos to Valentin, Stefan, and other guys). But this time a different bartender (relatively new one?) was working with Charlotte, and he left a sour taste. The only available spot was outside, a cramped little ledge with a high, uncomfortable stool - at the almost empty bar, by the way, and with other single people sitting by the tables outside - with my back pain, sitting there to relax and read for a while wasn’t really an option, so I asked to settle in somewhere more comfortable (got refused). I went to the restroom and then said hi to Charlotte and asked for some water - and for that another bartender told me I had “dicky behavior” on my way out. I didn’t say a word back, didn’t complain to Charlotte - just waved to him and left. Getting that from staff over absolutely ordinary things is odd and off-putting, especially in a place with this reputation. The bar itself and the owners are great, but this evening and this bartender left a bad impression. I’ll come again though, you get used to that in Berlin eventually.

Beautiful sidewalk bar with the picturesque corner spot by a park. The staff is most attentive and helpful in navigating the drink menu. It is not just Rum drinks…I went with a gimlet in mind, and he made it with rum…I was not disappointed. Quite hefty pour so the drink is well worth the price.

The staff here is absolutely marvelous and incredible at what they do. I will need to go back and try a few more cocktails but the ones I did try left a little to be desired. Great Piña Colada though! Super smokey as it’s a small space! I won’t hold that again them since they do warn you before you go in but it’s still rough. I’d suggest calling ahead if your group is more than two.

Cash only. No photos or phone use allowed inside. Very cozy, so space is limited. Has been around for over 50 years! Feels like you’re stepping back in time to prohibition era. Really cool vibes. Excellent craft cocktails, mostly rum based but champagne and small selection of whiskey available. Bartenders highly skilled and prepared several amazing cocktails for me based on my cigar choice. Highly recommended if you’re in the area. They do take call ahead requests for table (seats 6) but mostly bar seating / standing room.

If you are bothered by smoking indoors this is not the bar for your. The staff and patrons were all smoking in about 30 sq m. The smoke was overwhelming. Beyond that, this is a hidden gem. One of the oldest bars in Berlin, amazing staff, good drinks, so much to love but I coughed the entire way home.
