München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Went on a self guided tour of the residence as well as the treasury. I especially enjoyed the swords in the treasury as well as the palace's collection of Chinese and Japanese porcelain. My favorite room was the antiquarium for sure. It was kind of cozy, weirdly enough. I could see myself spending hours reading and writing there. Also the tickets were very cheap. Especially compared to the palaces in Vienna.

This is a beautiful palace that I must see in Munich. You can spend a few hours there as it is very large. Make sure to visit the treasury as it is definitely worth it.

Is a must visit in the city. The former royal palace is stunning, with beautifully preserved rooms, grand halls, and an impressive treasury filled with crowns and royal artifacts. It gives a real insight into Bavarian history and royal life, and every section feels rich in detail and history. A perfect mix of architecture, culture, and heritage right in the center of Munich.

The Residenz München, nestled in the heart of the city, served as the seat of government and residence for Bavarian dukes, electors, and kings for centuries. As Germany’s largest city palace, it is a sprawling complex that masterfully blends Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassicism. Its architectural majesty is most evident in the Antiquarium, the oldest Renaissance hall north of the Alps, featuring a breathtaking barrel-vaulted ceiling adorned with delicate frescoes. The palace's structural evolution mirrors the rising power of the Wittelsbach dynasty, showcasing a commitment to grandeur and artistic innovation. The collections within are equally unparalleled. The Treasury (Schatzkammer) houses an exquisite array of crown jewels, insignia, and reliquaries, reflecting the immense wealth and religious devotion of the court. Meanwhile, the Cuvilliés Theatre stands as a pinnacle of Rococo design, with its gilded carvings and opulent red velvet interior. Beyond these treasures, the Residenz is a testament to human resilience and the enduring power of culture. Though heavily damaged during history's darker chapters, its meticulous restoration represents a city’s refusal to let it

The Munich Residence is incredibly beautiful and magnificent, extremely vast, and filled with an impressive royal atmosphere. From the exhibition areas with grand rooms, paintings, statues, and luxurious chandeliers to the sections displaying historical artifacts, everything makes a strong impression with its splendor. You should spend 3-4 hours in here if you want to see clearly and slowly everything. It’s located in an area that was a bit hard to find (at least for me). The staff are very friendly and speak English well. The exhibition areas and the theater are not in the same section, but everything is absolutely wonderful.
