Good collection and some amazing objects, like the Benin collection, the Maori and Hawaian feather mantles, the rice house from Indonesia etc. Nice cafe too.

Cologne’s ethnological museum and the one that requires the most from its visitors — in the best way. The permanent collection covers cultures from across the world with an unusual willingness to be uncomfortable about how those objects arrived here. There’s a room on the colonial context of collecting that most museums of this type still avoid. The fact that it’s here, plainly stated, is worth acknowledging. The objects themselves are extraordinary — textiles, ritual objects, everyday items that become strange and specific under the right kind of attention. The interactive elements are better than they sound: they slow you down rather than distracting you. Thursday evenings until 8pm. That’s the right time to come — quieter, better light, enough time to actually finish.

Interesting museum but not very well-kept. Some expositions (audio very example) don’t work or work poorly, some exhibits’ descriptions are abraded and short, and lightning doesn’t work. Most of the descriptions are not translated to English. But exhibition overseers after very nice and helpful.

A nice but not outstanding museum. Quite a lot of interesting exhibits. You can walk through everything in 1–1.5 hours.

Looks like the museum is not so occupied. You don't have to be scared of crowds. You can find here detailed descriptions of different cultures and many aspects of their lives and culture. Everything is presented in a modern way and there are a lot of interactive stands. If you are interested in other cultures it's definitely a place worth visiting. It's a bit putty that not all of the descriptions are in English nevertheless I've spent 2,5 hours there.
