About Ratskeller Augsburg
Süddeutsche Gerichte, Biere vom Fass und Cocktails, serviert in den Rathausgewölben aus dem 17. Jahrhundert.
Located at Rathausplatz 2, 86150 Augsburg, Ratskeller Augsburg operates as a deutsche serving Augsburg in Bayern. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
For a place to eat or drink in Germany, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open today (many restaurants keep a weekly Ruhetag), does it take reservations for dinner, and does the menu suit your group. Tipping is modest, rounding up or adding 5-10% when you pay, and while cards are accepted in most places, cash is still the safe choice at bakeries, Imbiss stands and beer gardens. Tap water is not served automatically, and bottles you take away carry a Pfand deposit.
Opening hours are published for 7 days a week. Typical hours are 11 am–11 pm. Hours in Germany do change around public holidays, and many businesses close for a day or two over Christmas and Easter, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is 0821 31988238. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. Its website is ratskeller-augsburg.de, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 3,749 reviews, which is a strong result for a deutsche in Augsburg and suggests consistent service.
Augsburg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around Augsburg is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

A nice German restaurant with good local cuisine, generous portions, and an interesting interior. The service was quick and friendly, making the whole experience very enjoyable. Definitely a nice place to visit in Augsburg for traditional food and a pleasant atmosphere.

Came at a more quiet time but that allowed us to have a chat with the lovely staff about the menu and the region which is always lovely. They speak English well and are forgiving with your attempt to pronounce the German words which makes for a lovely experience. The portions were generous and we are leaving feeling very satisfied. The building is wonderful and aesthetically pleasing with high arched vault ceilings.

The place to visit for a hearty meal when you visit Augsburg! Ratskeller is a restaurant that would capture your heart instantly with its special location (at the basement of the townhall - regrettably closed temp. at the time of my visit), ambient atmosphere and decoration, and charming service. Mostly attended by locals, it sets the atmosphere for a quiet and intimate date if you are not into boisterous, lively place. The menu caters to the Bavarian palate and those who want to try out its delicacies in the heart of this region - we tried the sausage and ravioli, sweetened with Kaiserschmarrn (small portion) and were pleasantly delighted. Will come back the next time to try out more on the menu, and maybe some cocktails too.

Ratskeller Augsburg offers one of the best German food experiences we’ve had. The food was incredibly tasty and truly authentic exactly what you hope for when trying traditional German cuisine. The menu had a great variety of classic German dishes, and everything we ordered was delicious. The drinks were excellent as well and paired perfectly with the food. What really made this experience stand out was the staff. They were incredibly friendly and very attentive, especially compared to other places in Germany where we unfortunately found the service to be quite rude. Here, everyone was welcoming, kind, and genuinely cared about providing great service. We had a fantastic experience overall and highly recommend Ratskeller Augsburg to anyone looking to enjoy authentic German food in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

We had a really great time at Rathauskeller. It’s a proper German restaurant, exactly what you hope for when eating in Bavaria. The food was very, very tasty. The pork knuckle was excellent, and the schnitzel was also really good. Even the fries stood out, which is not always the case. Everything we ordered was spot on, from start to finish. We also enjoyed the wine, which was better than expected for this kind of traditional place. The restaurant is set in a big hall with lots of people, so it does get quite noisy, but that’s part of the experience. It really feels like a classic German beer hall—lively, busy, and full of atmosphere. The waiters were very kind and friendly, which made the evening even better. And to finish on a high note, the desserts were delicious as well. All in all, a great place for traditional German food, a warm atmosphere, and a real local experience. Definitely worth a visit.
