Wanted to visit after seeing on social media. Thought it was cash only based on reviews but I they do also do card if you don’t have cash. The waitress was really nice and welcoming which we didn’t expect as much conversation since we don’t speak good german. The atmosphere was refreshing and the drinks aren’t expensive as I thought (13€ for 1L beer and 10+ for cocktails). The performers will come round for tips every break, we felt bad because we ran out of all our cash at the end to the point we gave them our last british £20. Definitely a must if you’re visiting Köln.

If you’re looking for a cozy and fun place to spend an evening in Cologne, I think Papa Joe’s Jazz Bar is a great option. The interior has an old-school vibe, full of little details; the decor, photos and various objects really give the place character. The live music is genuinely very enjoyable, and when you sit close to the stage you feel like you’re sharing the same space with the musicians. The cocktails are decent, and you should definitely give their own beers a try. It can get crowded and a bit noisy at times, but if you like that warm, slightly chaotic jazz bar atmosphere, it’s definitely a place you should stop by.

Absolutely brilliant vibe. A very small bar but the clientele doesn't stay too long. We stayed for just under 2 hours and heard the nights jazz band play a couple of sets. The musicians were excellent and very well accomplished. Check out the history of Papa Joe. Quite a quirky establishment. All the staff were great. Cash only. As for the cocktail making machine.
