For a place to eat or drink in Germany, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open today (many restaurants keep a weekly Ruhetag), does it take reservations for dinner, and does the menu suit your group. Tipping is modest, rounding up or adding 5-10% when you pay, and while cards are accepted in most places, cash is still the safe choice at bakeries, Imbiss stands and beer gardens. Tap water is not served automatically, and bottles you take away carry a Pfand deposit.
The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. The most common schedule is 11 am–11 pm. Note that it does not open on Wednesday. As with most places, expect changes around public holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is 0821 50855841. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. More information is available on its website, ilgabbiano-augsburg.de.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 1,322 reviews, which is a strong result for an italienisch in Augsburg and suggests consistent service.
Augsburg is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. For directions in Augsburg, Google Maps and the DB Navigator app cover public transport times and walking routes, and most towns have well-marked cycle lanes. Local transport tickets must be bought or validated before boarding, and parking near busy streets is limited and metered.

A true neighborhood gem — this family-owned Italian restaurant delivers not only delicious, heartfelt cuisine, but an atmosphere that feels alive and welcoming from the moment you walk in. The owner is exceptionally communicative and genuinely cares about every guest’s experience, which gives the place a warm, personal touch. The energy inside is vibrant yet comfortable, making it the perfect spot for everyone — from young couples and groups of friends to families and older guests alike. A wonderful reminder of how hospitality should feel.

It is located at the center of the city. Please note that it is a very popular location and there are not many seats. We were lucky and we found a decent seat. Probably it was the best bruschetta that I have eaten in my life and I am not exaggerating. One diavola pizza and one Quattro formaggi. The wine was also very good. We liked it. Portions are massive.

This restaurant was packed on a Saturday late afternoon. Welcoming ambience, both indoor and outdoor seatings are available. We had pasta, the price was slightly on the expensive side and so is the quantity of food. Great friendly service and the food was served quickly as well. Highly recommend this place for lunch and dinner :)

This is the best Italian restaurant in Augsburg I have tried so far. The service are very friendly. Always approaching you with a smile and ensuring that you are getting the best experience out there. The chicken was perfectly done! (One of the best dishes I have tried so far) The pizza is also very special and the pasta was perfectly done. I would highly recommend paying a visit to this restaurant if you are in Augsburg. Also ask if the cheese cake is there. I loved their cheese cake with the cinnamon base addition. Thanks a lot for an amazing dining experience.
