München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around München is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

Gothic church converted Greek Orthodox Church from 1829, small and narrow, but very serene atmosphere in the center of the city

Small gothic church. Originally Roman Catholic, now belonging to the Greek Orthodox church (under the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople) after it was donated to the Greek community by King Ludwig I. Since it's considered a protected monument, the Greek Orthodox are not allowed to paint over the original HRE frescoes and stained glass so they have gothic arch-shaped byzantine style icons. Thanks to the kind theology student for telling me the history of the church.

Looks nice inside. Though usually either closed before 5 pm or once earlier than 4pm the main hall was closed with a cell when I came, so I had to pray at the doorsteps.

Church of the Saviour (Salvatorkirche) is a small Gothic style church that dates back to the late 15th-century. This was a former cemetery church of the large and important Frauenkirche in the Old Town. Today, the church serves the Greek Orthodox community. The present church has a modest Gothic exterior and interior as well as religious images typically found in Greek Orthodox churches. Yellow ribbed vaults add nice complementary colour to the interior, providing an interesting change of scenery to the many Baroque and Rococo churches scattered around the city. You can find Salvatorkirche near to the impressive Theatine Church and just west of Odeonsplatz. Have a look when you are in the area if you enjoy viewing old churches. It is a small building that can be viewed in 10 minutes or so.

I have never seen a church with less standing room during a liturgy. And beautiful voices in the all male choir.
