The lady who helped me made things very simple and switched to English when she saw I was struggling. Also for anyone getting late fees they write the number with the decimal so 36 euro is written 3600 - a handy fact to know

If you're new and looking for your Tax ID, do not go to the Finanzamt. I went to this Fananzamt twice, got 2 different clerks who were nice but said they weren't allowed to give me the tax ID because I've been here for less than a year. Go the Bürgerämt! I finally got my Tax ID after months by doing this. You'll need an appointment, but they're super flexible and helpful - even if you haven't booked the perfect appointment type.

Really positive experience. First on the phone the operator was quick and helpful in assisting me. Second onsite the man at the reception was very kind and welcoming. Thirdly I waited approximately 5 minutes without an appointment. Finally my agent was friendly and helpful: I got the documents I needed in a matter of minutes. Alles war aber auf Deutsch.

Great experience! On a Tuesday at 11 am it took five minutes total for the security guard to show me where to get a number and wait and then for the English speaking employee to get me my tax ID number. unexpectedly easy.

I guess like all administrations it depends on who takes care of you, I went there on a Wednesday morning and the security man didn't speak english but still helped me get to the right waiting room and was really nice. The lady that took care of me was super helpful (and spoke english), I got my Tax ID in less than 5 minutes.
