Choosing a Kita, school or course means looking at the curriculum, group sizes, staff qualifications and the fee schedule, including what is not covered. Kita places are scarce in most cities, so register early, often before the child is born, through the municipal portal or directly with the Kita, and ask about the Kita-Gutschein or fee subsidy where your city offers one. Primary schools (Grundschulen) enrol by catchment area, while the choice between Gymnasium, Realschule and Gesamtschule comes after year four.

Opening hours are published for 1 day a week. The most common schedule is 07:00–16:30. Hours in Germany do change around public holidays, and many businesses close for a day or two over Christmas and Easter, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is 09131 64712. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. Erlangen is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.
