Decent location and the food was good enough. But the service was pretty overworked and a bit confused: I've first gotten the wrong order and my drink and my starter soup were put down so fast that 1/3 of them spilled. Not really happy about the atmosphere tho. It looked like the building was coming apart on multiple areas, including some lamps coming off the ceiling. Also we saw multiple dead bugs around the floor (one of them rather big too) that didn't inspire confidence into hygienic standards

Sadly I was disappointed with both the food and the attitude of this storied establishment. A friend who had spent six years studying in Ulm recommended it to us. The food was at best ok. The sweet potato soup was something I would have considered just passable had I cooked it myself. The späzle was genuinely poor (we were a party of 7 and everyone tried it, with the same opinion). The salad we ordered was the best dish, and was decent. If the food was below expectations, the service was even worse. We were a party of 7, mostly a family visiting from Malaysia. They were not offered English menus, despite the restaurant having them (I managed to go and find them myself). We ordered drinks for everyone and five large dishes/main courses. The visitors wanted to try a few different things (which is more than fair in my view), but apparently (since a week ago) the restaurant does not (as a policy) allow its servers to provide extra plates so people can easily share. This is absurd, and I would say rude. The logic is, apparently, that people will order more food. To call this nuts would not do it justice. One thing was good - the beer… saving grace! Overall, I was seriously disappointed.

I ate here 2 years ago and the food was great and the price was very reasonable. This time around I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and lots of gravy to wash it down (as well as a wheat beer) because all the oh dishes were very expensive and there was no well priced daily specials. The food was picture perfect (as you can see). Unfortunately the taste of the meat loaf did not match the optics. The mashed potatoes were great ( just wish more were on my plate). The gravy worked its magic (as well as the beer). They have an English menu which is helpful and one the waitresses was very friendly and accommodating. I was there at about 13:30 on a Friday and there weren’t many customers. (Not like the last time I was there).

A warm, inviting place from the outside but quite dark and rustic inside. Stopped in for an early dinner on a Saturday evening so it was pretty quiet. The reservations started rolling in as I was leaving. Tasty, authentic regional cuisine. Ulm is on the border of the two southern German states so there’s a mix of the two regional dishes. If you want to try all the good stuff, go for the Bayerisch Schwäbischer Schmankerlteller. They offer a few house beers and others vom fass from the local Ulm brewery Gold Ochsen. Not the friendliest people, very much a locals place.

An amazing experience. Traditional German dishes that are delicious and plentiful. Prices are all reasonable. My kids loved the Cheese Spetzel, I loved the crispy pork knuckle. Inside is exactly what you imagine a classic German restaurant should look like. Outside is a large patio, but we sat inside. Waitress was very friendly and warned me when I was going to over order. Good thing she did because even our reduced order was huge and filling. No English menu and there was very little English spoke when I was there, but they are patient and friendly so it didn't matter. I will be returning as soon as I can to try some other items on the menu. Note: Toilets are down one flight of stairs.
