Berlin is in the state of Berlin, the capital and largest city of Germany; summers are warm, winters grey and cold with occasional snow, and the dense U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus network puts most businesses within a few minutes' walk of a stop. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

A place I want to visit in deep winter and you want to get out of the house. Really impressed they recognised the displacement of the thousands of Germans who became displaced when the boarders changed after WWII.

Pretty much the Displacement history of europe covered. Historical references, photos, maps, written journal entries, audio recordings and interviews etc. But the history of non-european displacement is pretty short and from very eurocentric approach, I felt. It's must visit, especially if one wants to understand why europe is today, the way it is and how politics work! Very detailed and multifaceted documentation center. Entry was free.

Such a great place for a history lesson and a hidden gem and free! I paid for several museums that do not compare. They even offer an audio guide it is a very well organized museum, probably could spend three hous there easily.

Definitely recommend planning a visit to the Dokumentationszentrum. I was lucky enough to arrive when an english guided tour was happening (also free) and was invited to join. So so thankful that Dr. Petra gave us the guided tour, really interesting, incredibly well explained and it helps you understand all the objects, information and context of the exposition. If you want to pay a visit, don't miss the opportunity to have this guided tour, it is so worth it.

One of the hidden gems of free museums in Berlin. Especially the second floor, dedicated to the expulsions of ethnic Germans from central and eastern Europe of the Second World War, is a must-see for anyone interested in German history. The exhibition is educational and tastefully executed, illustrating historical developments with personal stories. I take all my friends who are visiting Berlin here, and so far, all of them found it very interesting.
