Medical services in Bayern range from neighbourhood practices to university hospitals. Bring your insurance card, any previous test results and a list of medications you take. Your Hausarzt (family doctor) is normally the first stop and issues the referral (Überweisung) that specialists and hospitals ask for. Pharmacies (Apotheken) are separate businesses that dispense the prescription you are handed, and every district keeps a Notdienst rota so that one pharmacy is open at night and on Sundays.

Opening hours are published for 5 days a week. The most common schedule is 9 am–1 pm. Note that it does not open on Saturday, Sunday. München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.
