Burg Stockenfels was very beautiful. There are some things to keep in mind before visiting these amazing castle ruins. There is limited parking at the trailhead. The trail is roughly 1 km from the trailhead, and is easy to moderate depending on which path you decide to take. I made the mistake of following the Google Maps route, which took me up the moderate path for the final 200 meters. It only became a very difficult path for me because I had a double stroller with 2 children. Do not make this same mistake. Also, keep in mind that Burg Stockenfels is only open 1 Sunday per month during a limited season, so check the schedule prior to arriving. It's free to enter, but donations are appreciated. You are allowed to wander the ruins portion and enter the very well preserved portion at the ground floor and cellar levels, but are not permitted to go upstairs. It is well worth the visit. Highly recommend!

What an awesome find in the middle of nowhere. Normally when you find burg ruins in the middle of nowhere, long abandoned, they are in disrepair with hardly any semblance of themselves. Not so here. It takes little imagination to see defenders manning the ramparts against attackers scaling the steep hillside on all sides.

The burg is only about a 15 minute walk from the main road. Finding it can be a bit tricky. Make sure you follow the green squares spray painted on the trees. It is a nice small castle. You can only enter the castle the first Sunday of the month from 13:00-17:00.
