Gersthofen is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around Gersthofen is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

What a beautiful museum, so lovingly curated. It's small but big enough that I spent almost two hours in there, reading through the informative cards and posters and taking in all the images and vintage items. You can find not only photographs and press releases from 200+ years ago but also technical specs and preserved machinery. Such a satisfying way to spend a couple of hours only a short train ride from Augsburg.

Surprisingly informative. Nicely laid out museum taking you through the history of ballooning. We used the audio guide but were very confused by the directions and the floor arrows.

Slow Sunday afternoon so not much else to do but we found the balloon museum very interesting. Lovely building with excellent guides and exhibits.

Nice museum, fair price for the tickets, you can spend an hour an a half in it, I mean that is the time till you see all or most of it, much history there, there are parking places near by.
