For a place to eat or drink in Germany, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open today (many restaurants keep a weekly Ruhetag), does it take reservations for dinner, and does the menu suit your group. Tipping is modest, rounding up or adding 5-10% when you pay, and while cards are accepted in most places, cash is still the safe choice at bakeries, Imbiss stands and beer gardens. Tap water is not served automatically, and bottles you take away carry a Pfand deposit.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. Typical hours are 11:30 am–9 pm. As with most places, expect changes around public holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Ballabeni Icecream Lehel on 089 12626979; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions, and many businesses also take enquiries and bookings by e-mail or WhatsApp. More information is available on its website, ballabeni.com.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.8 out of 5 from 273 reviews, which is a strong result for an eisdielen in München and suggests consistent service.

München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. Getting around München is easiest by U-Bahn, S-Bahn, tram and bus, all covered by the Deutschlandticket that is valid on local and regional transport across Bayern and beyond; parking in city centres is scarce and either paid or limited by Parkscheibe, so public transport or a bike is usually quicker than driving.

This place deserves much more recognition! The ice cream is one of the best I’ve had - even compared to many gelatos in the Dolomiti / Venezia region. We tried the Pistachio, Yoghurt, and lemon sorbet. All were really delicious. The pistachio was rich and nutty. You order your scoops and get a free sampler of any other flavour too. No indoor seating, a short bench outside for customers. Only takeaways. Good place to get an ice cream fix!

One if the best ice cream I got since living and being in Italy before. They have an interesting choice of flavors (greek yogurt, tonka bean, rosè) and you get an extra sample of ice cream with your order - a nice way to try something more, if you cannot decide between the main scoop flavors;)

I had a scoop of mango-maracuja and a small portion of hazelnut. Both were exquisite! Smooth, creamy, full of flavour. Portion costs 2,7€ which is quite a lot, but they are definitely worth it.

The ice cream itself was excellent — very delicious, high quality, and definitely worth trying. The price is also very reasonable for the quality you get. Most of the staff were friendly. However, our overall experience was let down by one staff member. He was visibly impatient, spoke loudly, rushed us to order, and made us feel unwelcome. As a non-native English speaker, his attitude made me feel as though my language barrier was an inconvenience to him. I also noticed he seemed frustrated with other customers around us as well, not just our group. I also noticed that some Google reviews mention similar experiences regarding rude service toward foreign customers, so I hope this feedback will be taken seriously. Ballabeni has a great reputation, and I genuinely enjoyed the ice cream very much, but the service from this particular staff member did not match the quality of the product.

Only one long bench outside to sit down. 2,7€ for one scoop. Was offered to chose another flavor to try a teaspoonful. I had the multi berries in a waffle bowl and tried the chocolate flavor. Both were full of flavour, good consistency and texture. The two flavors went well with each other. The girls getting me the gelato and at the cashier were both cheerful and courteous. I felt the higher than average price was not for nothing.
