About Augustiner-Keller
Located at Arnulfstraße 52, 80335 München-Maxvorstadt, Augustiner-Keller operates as a biergärten serving München in Bayern. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Google also lists it under bayerisches restaurant, deutsches restaurant, brauereischänke, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.
For a place to eat or drink in Germany, the questions that matter most are simple: is it open today (many restaurants keep a weekly Ruhetag), does it take reservations for dinner, and does the menu suit your group. Tipping is modest, rounding up or adding 5-10% when you pay, and while cards are accepted in most places, cash is still the safe choice at bakeries, Imbiss stands and beer gardens. Tap water is not served automatically, and bottles you take away carry a Pfand deposit.
Opening hours are published for 2 days a week. Typical hours are 10:00–00:00. Hours in Germany do change around public holidays, and many businesses close for a day or two over Christmas and Easter, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is 089 594393. Calling ahead is the norm in Germany for reservations and for confirming that a small business is open that day; e-mail or WhatsApp is the common alternative if you would rather write than speak. Its website is augustinerkeller.de, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.
Customers rate it 4.4 out of 5 on Google across 40,246 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded biergärten & brauhäuser in München.
München is in Bayern, in the south, the country's industrial powerhouse around Munich and Stuttgart with the Alps and the Black Forest on the doorstep; winters bring snow and the occasional warm Föhn wind, summers are the warmest in Germany, and living costs are the highest. German addresses put the street name before the house number, followed by the five-digit postcode and the town, as in "Marienplatz 8, 80331 München". The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Augustiner-Keller is a great beer garden in Munich and felt refreshingly local compared to some of the more touristy spots. We ordered the bratwurst with fries, along with Helles and Weissbier. The bratwurst was fantastic—juicy, flavorful, and the perfect pairing with a cold Bavarian beer. The beer garden is self-service, which works incredibly well given the huge crowds they serve. Even on a weeknight, it was packed, but the service moved quickly and efficiently. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d hope for from a Munich biergarten—lively, relaxed, and filled with locals. Its location away from the main tourist areas gives it a more authentic feel. A great spot for Bavarian food, beer, and a lively local beer garden experience.

Great beer, traditional food. Yes a litte on the expensive side, but you are going for the experience. Place gets crazy crowded in the evening, please remember the following: You can walk in and actually sit on any empty table (matching your group size), someone will find you and pass you the menu if not already on the table. There are English menus available. Staff are polite, payment if in card needs to made at the common counter, if in cash you can pay to the steward.

This was my first visit to Augustiner-Keller, and I completely understand why so many people love this place and keep coming back. At first, the sheer number of guests can be a little overwhelming, but don’t let that discourage you. The entire operation runs like clockwork. The service was fast, friendly, attentive, and impressively well organized despite the crowds. The beer was outstanding, served directly from traditional wooden barrels, which adds a unique touch to the experience. The food was equally excellent, and the overall atmosphere is exactly what you hope for when visiting a traditional Munich beer hall. A special thank you to Marcel, who looked after us throughout the evening. Not only was he incredibly professional and welcoming, but he also shared some interesting information about the brewery’s history, which made the experience even more memorable. Whether you’re visiting for a full meal or simply stopping by for a beer, this place is absolutely worth it. I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

Probably the best pub I've ever been to. We went here for tea the day we landed, they had a band on in traditional dress and we had beer and currywurst. A great welcome to Germany. We loved it so much, we returned for our last meal on Friday night. The place was packed. Everyone was friendly, multiple nationalities all enjoying each other's company. All age ranges, and some dogs too. We had 4 people at our table, and 2 local boys asked to join us as they couldn't find a table. Great atmosphere, great food, efficient staff and the best biergarten you will ever see.

Augustiner Keller is a fantastic place to experience authentic Bavarian culture. The atmosphere is lively and traditional, with a beautiful beer garden that really captures the spirit of Munich. It feels both welcoming and energetic at the same time. The food was excellent—classic Bavarian dishes done right, full of flavor and very satisfying. The portions are generous, and everything tastes fresh and authentic. Paired with their famous beer, it makes for a truly enjoyable meal. Service was friendly and efficient despite how busy it gets, which added to the overall great experience. Whether you’re visiting for the food, the beer, or just the atmosphere, Augustiner Keller is definitely a place I would recommend and happily return to.
