Das Wahrzeichen des ehemaligen US-Militärstützpunktes "Wiley Barracks" erstrahlt nach der Erneuerung wieder in weiß/roten Gewand.

Eine schöne Erinnerung an die US Garnison in Neu Ulm Wiley die hier von 1951 bis 1991 stationiert waren. Steht seit 2022 unter Denkmalschutz und wird gerade saniert.

Völlig zu Recht hat sich die Stadt Neu-Ulm entschieden, dieses Relikt aus der jüngsten Vergangenheit nicht einfach plattzumachen. Der Turm soll vielmehr daran erinnern, daß hier vor wenigen Jahren eine ganz andere Bebauung mit ganz anderem Zweck vorhanden war. Ein Denkmal muß nicht unbedingt mit einer konkreten Nutzung einhergehen. Nach meiner festen Überzeugung genügt die bloße Existenz. 👍
