The new branch of this famous and popular Syrian sweets shop just opened in Alt Stadt. The place is just by the Ubhan station, in Breite Straße, on the corner. Inside it is amazingly decorated, spotless and beautiful. The staff are very friendly and helpful and they have a great selection of Syrian baklava, Mamoul (baked shortbread style cakes stuffed with dates, pistachios, or walnuts), kunefe (the Syrian style, not Turkish künefe), Fatair (a big puff pastry dessert filled with walnuts mixed with rose water and sugar, or with Ashta ( like kaymak but sweeter, like thick milk curd), and many other types. They have regional desserts from Homs also like Halawet El Jibn, which is very popular in Syria and a must try. The prices are not cheap but the quality is absolutely top.
