We enjoyed an afternoon treat of coffee and wasp infused cakes in cafe Stephan. The wasp that showed us to our table was friendly, attentive and knew a surprising amount (given how short their lives are) about the history of the place. We were also served by a young lad who was equally efficient albeit less knowledgeable on the history side of things. The cakes and the coffee were excellent as was the setting, it is really worth a visit.

One of the highlights of our trip. Very friendly people, fantastic food. We ordered too much food, but enjoyed every bit of it. We spent most of our time having our meal with a local woman who comes to the cathedral once a week and stops here for their white sausages.

Nice atmosphere, indoor & outdoor terrace seating, front terrace has outdoor seating for handicap, toilets located outside front seating area thru unmarked brown door, but several 1 & 2 steps involved, no ramps. Inside is ornate, plenty of seating, a large outdoor patio is accessed from the main inside area, surrounded by the church towers on one side, and can see Mariahilf on the right over the rooftops. Staff were friendly, Coffee was very good, must be clear on your order, they call coffees by different names than USA. The pastries and cakes looked fabulous. Staff spoke English well enough.

Saturday was market day in front of the beautiful Cathedral and we peeked inside thinking that the prices would rule us out (because of how beautiful it is inside) but we were pleasantly surprised. So we came back for dessert a few hours later and totally enjoyed the ambiance, friendly service, great cake (poppy seed …yum yum!), coffee and beer ! Highly recommend.
